The Benefits of Maca Powder

Maca Powder has become one of my favourite superfoods to add to protein shakes and healthy snacks.  It has an earthy nutty flavour, very unique, yet is a Peruvian Ginseng.  It grows in the Andes of Peru and has a long history of culinary and medicinal uses in Peru.

The Maca root is dried and consumed in powder form. Maca root powder is low in fat and rich in a number of nutrients, including vitamin C, copper and iron. It also contains many bioactive plant compounds.

It's benefits include boosting energy and peformance, enhancing libido and fertility, can improve mood and reduce anxiety, protect the skin from UV rays, promotes natural antioxidants in the body to fight free radicals which can damage healthy cells, improve memory and learning.

You can find Maca Powder in your local supermarket health food aisle or health food store.

Benefits of Supergreen Powders

Supergreens can help boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, detoxify the body, and promote healthy digestion

They often contain a mix of highly concentrated nutients high in antioxidants from supergreens like kale, spinach, spirulina, brocoli, kelp, wheatgrass, barley grass, alphafa grass etc.

In powdered form they are easily digestable and asorb quickly to boost energy and overall health and wellness.

Benefits of Bee Pollen

Bee Pollen is a natural medicine that has medicinal and nutritional benefits.  Bee Pollen is known for its antifungal, antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, anticancer immunostimulating, and local analgesic properties.

Bee Pollen contains protein, amino acids, essential fatty acids and vitamins A, E and D, and B1, B2, B6, and C, and acids: pantothenic, nicotinic and folic, biotin, rutin, and inositol.

It also contains traces of  macronutrients (calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, and potassium) and micronutrients (iron, copper, zinc, manganese, silicon, and selenium).

Please note - if you have allergies to bees, it may not be advisable to consume bee pollen.  Please read the warnings on the product labels.

Antioxidant Properties of Frozen Berries

Amongst fruit - blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries have the highest antioxidant properties and help keep free radicals under control which can damage your cells.

The antioxidant properties of berries can help reduce the risk of disease, stabilise blood sugars and insulin levels.  They are good source of soluble fibre increasing a feeling of fullness, reducing cravings.  Berries are low carb and high in vitamin C.

Berries have anti-inflammatory properties, can help lower cholesterol and protect against cancer.  As well as assist with heart health.

Some great reasons to include them as a fruit of choice in your protein shakes.
